Taxing will not work either

While corporate profits have been skyrocketing and the wealthy have been getting wealthier, the average worker’s income has dramatically dropped. While the cost of living has exponentially increased, wages have not followed. It has been shown time and time again that tax cuts for the wealthy are NOT effective. Taxes on those who practice greed should be raised.

Just to contrast: Reagan and Thatcher used the term to justify only property rights and privatization. Their policies led to greater economic inequality, and ultimately to greater political and legal inequality. The idea that I am proposing would not simply be a market system (although not a capitalist market system), but one in which the means of production would be widely and more equally dispersed throughout the population. It also includes measures to prevent the type of political corruption we have seen in the past few decades, through policies to separate economic strength from political sway (although we have in the past had such policies, they were weak at best, and did not survive the Supreme Court's recklessness in Citizens United). The argument in support of the Rawlsian idea is that it would discourage huge inequalities in wealth while promoting equality of opportunity and political equality.

This idea is appealing and I think it deserves a good look. The source of many of the problems we are facing is the concentration of vast amounts of capital in the hands of a few corporations. This grants them economic power and leverage over society that has hurt the rest of us.

So, people are paid very low wages by British companies which in turn make higher profits because of the low wages. The higher profits generate increased revenue to the government by way of higher corporation tax payments which is then given back to the low paid, via working tax credits and pounds till pay day UK, to enable them to live. Still, I suppose it keeps a lot of people in a job sorting out all the paperwork! The richest 1% take more money out of the system then they put in. That's why their wealth grows faster than the economy. With fewer people working, and their wealth expanding, the 99% are subsidising the 1%. Look at it this way. The more pie you eat, the more crumbs you produce. Don't be grateful for a few extra crumbs.
