Parking meter boxes

Al Nazimek sent a message using the contact form at http://occupychi.org/contact.

Does Occupy Chicago plan to do anything in regard to our ridiculously priced parking meters? $5.75/hour is out of this world! Everyone knows by now that Chicago got far less for the lease than we should have, and now, Richard M. Daley is working for the law firm that negotiated the deal, along with Jacquelyn Heard, his former press secy., and Jodi Kawaya, her former top deputy.

Bostonians once tossed hated British Tea into Boston Harbor, but we Chicagoans, instead of tossing out these fee boxes, toss money into them.

This falls into inappropriate privatization of things that could be channeling the public's money back into the public, rather than into private hands. The same holds for the Skyway bridge, with its insane profiteering, and the Indiana stretch of I94. It is no surprise that Daley walked into a job connected to his disastrous and illegal decisions. If the police state weren't so effective at curtailing reaction against exploitation, I'd happily see those parking boxes smashed into smithereens, and next to them placed community collection boxes.

Daley is the best example of the fact that privatization is theft and corruption.

This is truly an outrage and should be included in our platform and protests.

 All the meters are horrible!! Some don't even take money! But, especially, the meters in the parks are an outrage! The park districts have free programs, but you STILL have to pay for parking? I'm hoping Daley rots in H@ll for this decision!!

It's apparently worse than that, as it seems 49.9% of the LLC that owns the meters is foreign owned!
