As promised in the GA today, below is the proposed rewording to Grievance #2, drafted in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street, which will be put to a vote at the 7PM GA tomorrow, 10/4/2011. Please review it.

True Shared Sacrifice

While corporate profits have been skyrocketing and the wealthy have been getting wealthier, the average worker's income has dramatically dropped. While the cost of living has exponentially increased, wages have not followed. It has been shown time and again that tax cuts for the wealthy are not effective. The present tax structure favors the wealthy and corporations, offering them lower rates, loopholes, and the chance to ship their profits offshore to foreign tax havens. A more equitable and progressive tax system must be implemented, such that those with greater wealth pay greater taxes.

I think this sounds really good. I like removing the set income number of what includes "super rich" but focusing more on the lower rates, loopholes and offshores as the people & corps utilizing those and not paying appropriately are the 1%.

I'm sure everyone has read/seen Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren's comment on wealth, but if not search it. I think her statement is a great thing to think about when discussing this.

I'll back this as well. Great wording for an important grievance. My only suggestion is that we possibly add a grievance to account for out of control American spending. It should be made clear that even though we are calling for an increase in taxes for the rich, we do not necessarily want a bigger government or more spending. Drastic government cuts still need to be made.
