Minute of Support for Those Involved in the Occupy Movement
The Downers Grove Friends Meeting supports their members and others who are working for justice through the Occupy movement. As Quakers, we affirm that of God in every person. We are committed to non-violence, as well as social and economic justice. We wholeheartedly support the Occupy Movement as it reflects these beliefs.
The Occupy Movement reflects Friends' practice in that they strive for internal equality, making decisions by consensus. They take care of each others needs, they are searching for truth, offer a voice to all, and they envision a more just and sustainable world. We appreciate that they are peaceful supporters of non-violent change even in the face of arrest and intimidation and we also appreciate that that they have moved economic justice issues to the forefront of government and the media.
