Dear Activist,

2011 brought the world amazing events as movements everywhere took a stand for real change. There couldn’t be a better moment to build and share the skills, techniques, and strategies that the next generation of activists will need in order to quit coal and stop climate change, protect the oceans and forests, stop toxic pollution and transition to clean, sustainable energy.

This February, Greenpeace will be gathering together with activists from across the country to hold a week-long direct action training. This camp will give motivated activists the opportunity to build skills in a variety of non-violent direct action techniques, including action climbing, boat driving and blockades. Participants will also learn about the history and philosophy of non-violence and discuss Greenpeace campaigns during breakout sessions with the campaigners themselves. The deadline for applications is January 25th.

At the camp, you will learn:

● History and philosophy of nonviolent direct action

● Scouting and preparing for a direct action

● Blockade Techniques

● Arts and prop making

● How to talk to media

● Know your rights and legal training

● Climbing in direct action scenarios

● Boat driving for water based direct action

And much more.

The trainers and workshop facilitators work with Greenpeace as well as a variety of other organizations and are experienced in the use of creative nonviolent campaigning tactics. Experienced and skilled activists will be on hand to share techiniques and ideas for moving our collective work forward in a meaningful and substantial way.

The deadline for applications is January 25th, so please apply today. Simply go to the following link and fill out the form: www.greenpeace.org/usa/actioncamp

This camp is free and applications will be accepted from anyone interested in nonviolent direct action and Greenpeace’s campaigns. Some travel stipends are available for those who are able to demonstrate need. More details will be provided in the application. Please contact james.brady@greenpeace.org with any questions.

We hope to see you at camp.
