Occupy London Ontario requests Occupy Chicagos support in so
Hello Occupy Chicago from your neighbours to the north at Occupy London Ontario. We are requesting your support in helping members of the 99% stuck in a bitter lockout by Peoria, IL based Caterpillar Inc.
Caterpillar has locked out workers unless they accept a new contract which cuts their wages by more then 50%. It takes away their benefits. It retroactively takes away the companies RRSP contributions. This factory has been productive for 60 years. The company has remained profitable even during this slow economy.
Caterpillar has a long history of refusing to negotiate, taking away rights of workers all around the world. In 1995, all across the USA, workers gave up on a 17 month strike that busted their union.
The company made record profits last year. Their profits are up 44% this year.
Occupy London Ontario is standing in solidarity with these workers. We have re-occupied on the front lines at the factory, and will do what is needed to support the workers.
We are requesting your support in this matter. This is the corporate greed all of us are fighting against. Anything that can be done would be appriciated.
This isn't just about saving jobs. This is about standing up for the 99% while the executives bring in big bonuses based on profit generation. This is about standing up to companies that refuse to negotiate with a workforce that has fought for their rights over 60 years. This is standing up for the rights of workers who have been abused for corporate greed. We need your help.
Thank you,
Brent Cornwall
