The Spiritual Affairs committee would have a 2 pronged purpose. 1. To contextualize our work in spiritual and religious language and reach out to spiritual and religious organizations. 2. Take action to take care of the spiritual well being of people on the street.
Regarding the first purpose, descriptions of our work could be written using language and stories from a variety of holy texts. Perhaps a list of talking points could be developed for talking with people with a strong religious tradition. We could also do outreach to churches, synagogues, mosques, etc. to educate people there about the Occupy phenomena and invite people to come to the street.
Regarding the second purpose, we acknowledge that this is hard work, with a high potential for stress and burn-out. Toward that end we want to take care of ourselves. Meditation, yoga and even prayer gatherings could be offered. We also propose developing some sort of identifier, such as an armband, for clergy so that those who wanted to speak with a clergy person could find one.
Thanks for stopping by and blessings.
