CHICAGO (CBS) — President Obama, who turns 50 this week, has scheduled a trip to his hometown of Chicago on Wednesday to raise additional cash for his campaign fund and other Democrats.

Obama is expected to make remarks during an evening fundraiser and concert at the Aragon Ballroom featuring singer Jennifer Hudson, Herbie Hancock and the rock group OK Go. Proceeds will go to the Obama Victory Fund 2012, a joint fundraising committee authorized by Obama for America and the Democratic National Committee, Obama’s re-election campaign said.

A VIP dinner at the Aragon will cost donors as much as $35,800 per ticket, FOX News and the Chicago Tribune reported. Concert tickets on the low end will start at $50 each.

Obama’s visit was earlier was in doubt because of the debt-ceiling impasse in Washington. Eleventh-hour negotiations over the weekend yielded a reported compromise, giving the president greater leeway for the trip to Illinois.

Early August of this year was a very bad week for President Obama; he turned 50 and looked very weak after the debt ceiling deal that should have never been open for debate as it was money that we already owed. It was also a period of time in which many of us wanted Hillary Clinton to enter the Democratic primary of next year in order to teach Obama what a Democrat looks like and what one is supposed to do in power. Things have improved somewhat after the president has taken advice from James Carville, David Axelrod, and Bill Clinton.
