[Contact form] major teacher conference in Chicago Nov. 17-2
From Thursday evening Nov. 17 to Sunday midday Nov. 20 the National Council of the Teachers of English will be holding its annual meeting in downtown Chicago in the Tower and Palmer House Hiltons. There will be aprox 6000 teachers, mostly secondary English teachers, but also elementary and college attending this event from schools all across America. How might this group connect with Occupy Chicago? Could we set up some educational events for these teachers? Invite the teachers to think about the connections between the Occupy movement and the attacks on school funding especially for the poor, teacher unions, testing that limits curriculum to the officially approved, and so on? I have attended this conference for almost 30 years and I would be happy to try to help organize some events. Friday and Saturday draw the most teachers, especially Saturday. If anyone has any ideas or I can help let me know. In solidarity, -- and in outrage over the attack on Occupy Wall Street last night -- Dr. Allen Webb, professor of English, allen.webb@wmich.edu
