5 weeks ago supporters of Occupy Chicago undertook a project to create and produce a play based up the movement, a fusion of art and activism titled OCCUPY MY HEART: A REVOLUTIONARY CHRISTMAS CAROL. All of the actors were recruited directly from GAs, while the project always received overwhelming enthusiastic response from attendees. That project has now turned into a full production, with a cast rehearsing at Grace Place. On Tuesday the cast will record the play for radio broadcast/podcast on WCPT AM820 on Marshall Stern’s Awakened America. The play will be broadcast on Christmas Eve. The “Occupy Players” will also perform live at the Prop Theater in Chicago for a free show December 26th.
We would like to coordinate with Occupy Chicago on December 23rd for a march to the Lincoln Memorial in Grant Park (adjacent to the GA spot). The march would culminate with a performance of the play for the marchers and the city. This project was always viewed as a collaborative extension of the movement. Your help is critical to the effort. The project needs only your organizational support, the ability to list news and show information on the Occupy site, and the coordination for the event on the 23rd. Again, these will be free shows for a family friendly play about the movement, and will run until the end of the year.
Time is critical. The cast would prefer as much daylight as possible for the one hour play. Please let us know as soon as possible.
