[Contact form] Screen Printing at Occupy Chicago

Postby nonlinear » Mon Dec 12, 2011 12:57 pm

David sent a message using the contact form at http://occupychi.org/contact.

Hi Occupy Chicago,

I'm with the OWS Screen Printers Guild. We're a group of artists that started silk-screening in Zuccotti on people's shirts, patches, and posters. We've been helping other occupations get their own silk-screening groups/stations off the ground. It's fun to do, gets great art out there, and is incidentally a good fundraiser for the occupation since people want to donate for the prints. You can take a look at some of our groups designs here: http://occuprint.org/PrintLab/PrintLab.
And for a look at our group in action: http://www.flickr.com/groups/ows_screenprinting/

The OWS Screen Printer's Guild wanted to see if there was any interest at your occupation to start your own guild and if there is anyone there who already knows how to silkscreen. Please get in touch with me if there's any interest.

Best Regards,
David

Chris Drew - http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/ch ... id=2448923

runs a weekly FREE screen print workshop on Sunday afternoons at the American Indian Center up on Wilson. Just bring your art.

He's been "occupying" since the 90's - so to speak. He specializes in political messaging on patches, which he makes on the street and freely distributes. He teaches the quick street methods that he's been using for quite some time. He's been doing his best to reach out to occupiers, to teach them to methods and ways to be able to do the work on various media, right out on the street, in real time.

He's also taking on the illinois statute regarding audio recording of cops. Which is pretty awesome. you can read more about that in the first link.

Anyway - here's the workshop info. http://www.art-teez.org/spw.htm

We discussed this today at our Arts & Rec committee meeting. I know how to screenprint and have some screenprinting equipment. I'm considering soliciting our Chicago G.A. for approval to use funds to buy and photo emulsion & ink and we've been planning group screenprinting events. Thanks for the links!

I am very much interested to join the workshop for printing which you're going to conduct. I'm so excited to join. I would like to know more on how to custom t shirts. This will be an excellent workshop.
