Hello, Every Year Second City holds a 24 Hour Charity that raises money that goes directly to Disenfranchised Families in Chicago.

WHAT IS IT?
Simply Put a 24 Hour Show of Music and Improv. The Money is collected by Producer and former Social Worker, Heather Whinna. She loads up 2 - 3 Vans of Goodies and Supper and Cold Hard Cash and shows up on Christmas Day with her Husband Steve Albini. Every Dime goes to these families.

BACK STORY-

Every year kids from every class write letters to Santa and put them in the Mail. Used to be Anyone could go to the Post Office and pick up a letter written by a kid from the South Side and then Mail that kid a ball, some books, or even deliver a Turkey to the Family. http://www.operationlettertosanta.com/ is one example of a helpful organization. However, even Operation Letters To Santa ran into some trouble a few years back when one bad apple on the East Coast caused the Post Office to legally stop letting people selflessly help someone less fortunate then they.


SO WHAT IS CHICAGO's LETTERS TO SANTA?

Heather Whinna has a day job at Second City managing the Night Staff all year. But each year she heads this Event that brings in her Music Friends and we Improvisers perform to raise the money. Heather then finds needy cases from local Charity organizations. She finds 10-15 of the most neediest cases. She used to just go to the Post Office, but she did not let that stop her.

Then Christmas Morning she shows up on People's Doorsteps and delivers school supplies, toys, food, and in many cases cold hard cash to pay for medical bills or housing ustilities or whatever. She does not judge.

As a Chicago Starving Artist Improviser, I will be Occupying the Show in Solidarity with OccupyChicago. There are over 5,000 performing Improvisers in Chicago. Some know more than others about Occupy. My goal is to initiate some Occupy themed within the show, transparently, peacefully, appropriately, with humor, and with out conflict. (that's a mouthful) I plan on hosting an Improvised Occupy GA at 2am and 10am on Dec 7. - So check that out on the Livestream. I hope to raise awareness for the Occupy Movement and the Messages we stand for.

For a decade, The Second City has enlisted Chicago's best improvisers and their musical counterparts in offering twenty-four consecutive hours of the best improvised live art you will see in the city. This unique event raises money and gives hope to disenfranchised Chicago families on Christmas Day. This year's improvisation will be spearheaded by TJ Jagadowski, Tim Baltz, and Brendan Jennings.
Improvisational games, scenes, and songs inspired by sleep deprivation will accompany performances by the following musical acts:
7:30-8pm Jeff Tweedy live from Minneapolis auctioning a private show and more
9:30pm-Nina Nastasia
Midnight- The Mountain Goats

There will be great raffle prizes, unique auction items, and children improvising at 7am.
This event is open to all ages. Tickets are $20 and will be available at the door from 6pm on Tuesday December 6 throughout the event as long as seats are available.
