Hello, this is Kyle Miskell. I wanted to schedule hosting a teach-in with the Education committee, myself acting as a the educator, representing Rising Tide North America. This teach in will be on Climate Justice, and be done by me, and perhaps one other (Angie from Rising Tide). Here is a summary of what it will consist of:

Climate change impacts are already affecting people and the planet. And the science shows it will get far, far worse. The biggest impacts will be on the lives and livelihoods of the poor and developing countries, especially small island states. The biggest culprits are the 1% and the developed countries.

Progress for solutions has been made, but it is being enacted to slow to prevent future environmental catastrophes. Climate justice proposes ways to solve this by pushing for social and economic equity, a JUST transition to renewable energy sources, confronting corporate power, and other effective strategies. Come learn about why climate change is occurring, what the effects of it are, how you can fight for climate justice in Chicago, and how we can work together to enact climate justice.

On December 10th P.E.R.R.O (Pilsen Environmental Rights and Reform Organization) will be leading a march from the Pilsen 18th eagle statue square to Jackson and LaSalle. This march will be for the regulation of Crawford and Fisk coal plants, a movement that has been going on strong for almost a year, involving Greenpeace, Sierra Club, Rising Tide, P.E.R.R.O and 60 other organizations in Chicago. The ordinance to force regulation we are trying to pass currently has support from 70% of Chicago aldermen and the coal plant owners are being forced to negotiate with us.
