Outreach

Outreach connects with individuals and organizations to build bridges and expandOccupy Chicago.

These neighborhood Occupations are themselves apart of Occupy Chicago, but with a focus on their local community's needs:

Occupy the Hood Chicago

Occupy the South Side

Occupy Roger's Park

hello,

This is my first post regarding any type of idea regarding this movement.
I was at GA tonight and got handed a bunch of those Scott Olsen fliers for
the November 2 rally. I left a bit early and went back to HQ and picked up
some of those glossy Occupy Chicago fliers and went by Clark&Division.
I took a protest sign and set up and passed out flyers. Maybe we should
have groups start to go out like the Trix or Treat parade tonight and spread
the word. Andy was right when speaking in GA. We have cannot hibernate we've
got to get the word out! Neighborhood by neighborhood.

Maybe I could reach out in organized labor.

I am a shop steward for the Teamsters. My bargaining unit has contract negotiations coming up, and that always involves a fightback. I foresee some of my time being tied up in that. I work full time, volunteer at my church by changing light bulbs, shovelling snow, and ushering, and I also find it necessary to attend 12-step meetings.

I mention these things to illustrate that my plate is full. However, I love this movement, and I want to help.

I could help by word-of-mouth, of course. I could mention Occupy at my union meetings. I am also open to participating in a general strike, under the right circumstances. Keep in mind, however, that I am just a shop steward in a 11,000 member local, and my union officers don't seem very interested in social justice (sad but true).

I am not familiar with how general strikes are conducted, but I am willing to learn.

I assume there is personal messaging here, and I welcome interaction through PM's.

In Solidarity,

the power of the unions is with the workers!

Maybe you would like to join our union taskforce? It's a subcommittee of outreach.

They are having their weekly meeting tuesday at 6pm.

I have been down at the oc for about 40 days.I would like to make a suggestion on reaching the average american.Because this website and us gathering at Lasalle is not getting it done.Instead of spending money on music fest and things of that nature lets reach thousands of people through the newspaper media. We need to bring the middle aged and the seniors into the mix or we won,t go nowhere.Lets narrow our message for the purpose of drawing in these groups.A simple message of overturning citizens united and publicly financing elections. This is a populace message everyone can get behind. You can still have your issues inside the topic. We are all being attacked by the corporate run government so we all need to be involved. This can not be a computer facebook twitter student movement only we need everyone.Lets pick a date for a mass rally with a media blitz before the event. Our website is not getting it DONE!

I have been watching the OWS and Occupy Chicago from a distance for some time. I think the movement could benefit from a narrow focus and broad appeal. I like the idea of of a special day dedicated to get more middle-age and seniors involved. Perhaps instead of "take your sons/daughters to work" day the Occupy movement could plan a "take your parents/grandparents to protest" day. I don't have kids, but I am one of those middle-aged average Americans who supports the idea of the Occupy movement. Throughout the country, there are millions more people like me. Tell us where and when, and we will be there.

Enough protesting and enough of this human megaphone bullshit. Its a poor way of communicating and we are clearly preaching to the choir, Does anyone not see this? Enough with this sense of self entitlement we havent changed shit for anyone not for a moment. Why are we on the streets still? why havent we pooled money to to assemble somewhere indoors with an pen discussion and an open debate!? I posted in the stupid forum and here and get no responses nobody has answers and nobody is looking for answers! Lets change one law at a time. Lets get on the same page, lets get off the streets. And what was up with those kids just laying down when these people were speaking? Seriously. People have fought harder and longer with more at risk than we will ever know and some people act like we are actually heading in the right direction. Also I must stress again, this human microphone is stupid. Its 2011. The shit would crumble half way through with people repeating over eachother and complete miscommunication. THINK and Operate in a pratical manner please.

I'd like direction on integrating "we're everywhere" actions, such as Direct Action > Magnificent Mile, with the OC Daily Schedule. Thx!

This material has got to get out to the general public. If there is to be some level of general consenses amongst the populous which is concerned as to the social and financial structure of the nation and the larger global community there has got to be a spreading of the word and the a consolidation of the points for debate and affirmative action(s) taken in line with the decisions made by this body. Not saying the election of actual individual fugureheads but bodies such as this forwarding the ideas to a greater public forum. One commentor was absolutely correct in having said that all the discussion means nothing if the elements are laying in the streets while the word is supposed to be an active portion of said street presence. However, don't fall for the teaparty BS, I don't think this should "ever" become just another faction of an existing party because its a diffrent spectrum and the drink ain't the same swill (hopefully).
