No Clear Direction for New People

Postby anon69_69 » Sun Jan 22, 2012 5:52 am

I have been an advocate of the occupy movement. It seems out Chicago movement is plagued. I have recently goen to the gather point at LaSalle and Jackson to maybe find one other person there. Its is typically the same gentlemen with his large sign. Other tehn that I have not seen any real action recently. I understand the weather effects us here greatly more so then other cities. However there really seems no real direction on this site. Nothing that delivers any real information. Other then some very vague gather points.

I am not trying to derail or stir conflict. As I have been reading this site for a couple months now and there seems to be plenty of that here already. Allow me to point to the complete lack of attention to any welcoming activity on the forum side. That and any lack of direction on the front page for those looking to join the movement. This should be the most important priority. This will help others get involved. I have seen a real lack of attention to this. Sure you can point people to where we meet, but that does not really inform them.

I also understand the main web admin for this site has moved away from OC and perhaps this makes it harder even more then ever. I have no interest in attending GA meeting as it has no real relevance to the occupy movement other then create divides it seems from webcasts I have seen to the bickering that takes place about them on forums and etc. This goes for all the GA meetings I have seen not just relating to OC.

My main point is to make this movement more east to participate in for those new to the movement. The collective needs to work in getting this going. Be more concise in what events are taking place. Not just labeling the event and time and date. A point of contact for the welcoming committee with a phone that can be paid out of donations. To be only used for that purpose. Such as a tracphone etc prepaid account. With an updated VM everyday about movements going on in the city. This will help greatly yes social media is a great thing but its a bit tiresome with lots of meaningless babble being sent out. People need to be informed and feel welcomed. The welcoming committee needs points of contact for all new comers to arrive and ask to be introduced to our fellow hive. I have gone down to the meeting point for the hive and found me self being alone and leaving and I have stood back and watched other people approach and they to end up just walking away.

I write this not to complain but to introduce order. A means for allowing others to attend who may be unsure about how to get involved in a clear way. People want to feel welcome and wanted. Not to feel like they must do all the work to figure things out. It will only push people away. Lets move to more information posted about whats is taking place. Lets welcome new people with arms open. I am sure some of you have done this at the start. However as of now it seems to have taken a backseat. I would love to attend more and I will if I can get a welcomed feeling instead of being on the outside looking in. As many other new people who have gone down and felt the same way.

*yes I have posted in other threads, but this is to get the message out

Hey,

Let me know if I can help and maybe direct you the appropriate committee. Now,
we just moved in to our indoor space for time being the winter. I always come by the
L&J after the work but like you mentioned due to severe weather and also our neighborhood Occupation involvements , many people not able to come by HQ like used to be.
