Hello Colleagues: THe Part-time Faculty Association at Columbia (PFAC/IEA)requests you help with and action around the our contract negotiations on December 6 and possibly Wednesday December 7 around noon. The school administration has been dragging its feet at the bargaining table, has cut senior part time faculty classes, leaving dedicated teachers with half an income. These senior part-time faculty are people who have taught at the school for 10-20 years, called temporary so they don't qualify for benefits. We are part of a world-wide precarious workforce of disposable workers. Many of us are artists, musicians, dancers, fiction and other writers and scholars. Your help with our action will help us gain attention and give the lie to the omnipresent PR when in fact, creative people are exploited and treated with contempt. There are over 1,000 part-time faculty at Columbia and around 75% of the teaching workforce in academia is non tenure track.
