Hi,
First, I just wanted to say I'm so excited and supportive of all your actions with Occupy Chicago and think that even despite some your challenges, you guys are brave, determined and visionary souls.
Second, I had a quick question about the food system/infrastructure of Occupy Chicago? I've seen interesting things pop up around the country to make things as long-term sustainable as possible and this includes food. I know that right now you are just fighting to have a centralized location/encampment site. However, I dont think it would hurt to start conceptualizing this. I have some experience with sustainable agriculture projects in intentional communities/eco-villages as well as a certifcate in Permaculture Design. I've been meaning to come down to a GA, but living in the burbs its somewhat difficult to get to downtown without a car. So here's a few of my ideas:
-Urban agriculture/farms that already exist in the city that we could link too (WeFarm, Growing Power, Growing Home, Chicago Lights, to name the bigger ones)
-Co-ops that are already linked with local farms to create a supply chain with the Occupy movement (dillpicklefoodcoop.org, chicagocoop.net)
-A community or shared-use kitchen we can tap into (kitchenchicago.com, splicekitchen.com, culinaryincubator.com)
-Permaculture workshop/teach-in (how to apply to your home/community? Design to an eventual occupy basecamp (I hope!!!)?)
There is also this website that some of the other occupier supporters have suggested to help out occupiers get meals:
This is my very humble thought/suggestion/proposal and would love to contribute more.
Much gratitude,
Stella Caban
