Occupy goes to DC

Six volunteers from Occupy Chicago will be traveling to Washington DC this Friday. We are going to be speaking with congressional representatives and be presenting them with our grievances and telling our thoughts and let them know how the 99% from Chicago is feeling about these times in our country.

We will be meeting up with Occupy DC to create a line of communication with one of our Occupy family members. We can see how they are doing things there, and bring back key factors that we can utilize here that seem to be working for Occupiers in DC. We need to branch out to other occupations as much as we can to truly build solidarity and when the opportunity presents itself for several members of Occupy Chicago to go, we should jump on it that opportunity. 

 

The woman who is driving us and donating her van lives in Indiana. She is disabled but is a strong peaceful warrior like many of our elder supporters. She makes jewelry to make extra cash and as a hobby. Some of us have been selling her jewelry to try to raise money for this trip, but we haven't had too much luck here. Since she is donating her time and vehicle for this trip it would be nice if we could at least cover gas, tolls, etc.

So we are coming to the GA to ask if they think this is a good event to use donation money for. A few of the people attending are unemployed . Some are employed but are of limited resources due to the state of this country right now. 

 

Food and Sleeping will be taken care of. We are asking for funds for gas, tolls, and bus passes when we get to DC. Basic transportation costs. 

Gas will range from $250-$300 we estimate.

Tolls $50-70

Transit cards are $9 a day, $32 for a week, and  $1.50 a single ride

We are asking for $400 dollars to pay for these things. We will provide receipts for these purchases when we return to secretariat and treasury.
