Recreation and Arts Committee (RAC) prop. 1.1 to OCGA [draft] "Inspired Revolution: The Occupation to Resist the Occupation" Introduction [draft]: The Recreation and Arts Committee wishes to utilize its unique talents in order to foster global unity between the Occupy Chicago movement and other peace-loving, justice-seeking movements around the world. As such, this committee wishes to plan, promote, and conduct a fund-raising event for the Malalai Joya Defense Committee. This event will consist of a silent art auction (all media allowed), musical performances (hip hop show, other musical acts), and theatrical performances (improv or sketch comedy, other dramatic productions). Artistic contributions will be accepted on a donation/ volunteer basis. The location and exact time of the event is to be determined, but the location should be reasonably accessible from Jackson and LaSalle and the time should be set for within the upcoming month. Donations will be taken at the door and artwork will be sold in a silent auction. All money collected in this way will be donated to the Malalai Joya Defense Committee for use at their discretion. The event will be promoted and conducted in the name of Occupy Chicago.

Background [draft]: Malalai Joya is a former Afghan parliamentarian and peace-activist. She is an unwavering advocate of Afghan independence, democracy, and women's rights. Despite being banned from the U.S.-backed Afghan parliament and often threatened with death, she has refused to leave Afghanistan, and continues to remain a forceful presence for the people, in the name of justice and the human right of self-determination. Links are posted below for more information about Malalai Joya and her Defense Committee.

Proposal [draft]: The RAC proposes to the General Assembly that an amount of funds necessary to secure an appropriate location and to cover all necessary expenditures for the conduct of this event be appropriated to the RAC. Since a location and other costs have not been calculated at this time, the RAC requests that the General Assembly discusses and establishes a maximum appropriation, which the RAC will interpret at a budget limit. The RAC with then plan this event in such a way as that spending is minimized to the greatest extent possible and the maximum appropriation is not exceeded. Once such a plan is constructed, the finalized plan, with nearly exact dollar costs, will be presented to the General Assembly for final approval.

Signatures [draft]:

Mark Banks, Recreation and Arts Committee Member

Committee approvals [draft]:

Jimmy Cobb, Recreation and Arts Committee Member

Matthew Gember, Recreation and Arts Committee Member

Katreena Dyrek, Recreation and Arts Committee Member

Kelsey Hawk, Recreation and Arts Committee Member

Mary, I don't know why your reply was removed.  You can email Tech committee about that.  I'll mention it to someone on Tech if I see them around today.
