We need to take action to take money from the 1% - it is not enough to call on congress, which openly serves these oligarchs, to end their power and influence over government.  Direct action to break their power is required.  This does not require violence - indeed, violence would be counterproductive to this end.  Instead, we must work to break the power and drain the finances of the companies that run this system.

We must not spread ourselves too thin.  There are many tempting targets to take on - too many for us to take them on at once.  We must instead act like a well-aimed spear - placing all our focus on the most critical part of the enemy, breaking into the weakest part of their armor.  Therefor, it is proposed that we focus upon one company - a large company that has engaged in the most reprehensible behavior, that is large and powerful, and that is widely hated and easy to go after.

Therefore, the proposal will read as follows:

We, the Occupy Chicago movement, condemn Bank of America for their overt bribery and manipulation of our elected officials and public policy, their abuse of their workers and customers, and their shameful use of offshoring to avoid paying a single cent in taxes since they took our taxpayer money in the bailout.  We commit to draining the finances of Bank of America by organizing a mass boycott, the details of which shall be determined by the Direct Action Committee.  This boycott shall begin on Black Friday, 2011, and continue either until Bank of America pays their taxes in full and ends all lobbying - or until we drive them into bankruptcy.

Boycott Bank of America

I agree with boycotting BoA.  I moved to CEFCU (serving central IL) in January and haven't been robbed of a penny since.

I do not agree with "taking money from" anyone.

That kind of language makes people think what they've heard about us just being lazy and wanting to steal rich people's money is true.

Boycott Bank of America

Just posting the final draft of the officially adopted action, as there were a few changes that were made during the meeting.

We, the Occupy Chicago movement, condemn Bank of America for their overt bribery and manipulation of our elected officials and public policy, their abuse of their workers and customers, and their shameful use of offshoring to avoid paying a single cent in income taxes since they took our taxpayer money in the bailout.  We commit to draining the finances of Bank of America by organizing a mass boycott, the details of which shall be determined by the Direct Action Committee.  This boycott shall begin on Black Friday, 2011, and continue either until Bank of America pays their taxes in full at an American tax rate and ends all lobbying – or until we drive them into bankruptcy.

Sorry, one final change.  The date at which we start the boycott was moved up to Nov. 5 to coincide with national move your money day.
