F.O.X. Protest Events
I saw the documentary a while ago, I am familiar with what this event is, and I understand what we want to do. I don't exactly know if it will be worthwhile or not.
Protesting these people will not change anything. It may only make us look like a bunch of people harassing the wealthy. We can't generalize the wealthy and assume they all have done wrong to achieve their wealth. We are not anti-capitalism. We are anti-injustice. This event could send the wrong message if we approach it improperly and after all the hard work of so many of you I would hate to have such great intentions and walk away discrediting the movement.
I think this is a great opportunity but WE ARE NOT READY. I am only one voice and I may be wrong, but I feel we are getting ahead of ourselves. This, for lack of a better word, is a WAR. We need to be strategic. We need to be properly armed (with knowledge, not weapons) before we take shots. Keep in mind that, while we all want action, we are still an infant of a movement. We have been together for a month nearly, but many for a few days. We are beginning to think short term. I think that instead of focusing resources on yelling at rich people we should build our group from the ground up. I would much rather put those resources towards a new PA system to eliminate the human mic that plagues our GAs. I would rather focus on building our numbers and perhaps finding a permanent home for us. I would rather focus on LONG TERM success as opposed to short term victories. Forgive my jock analogy, but we can get 9 first downs and still not score a touchdown. We need, in my opinion, to establish ourselves a bit more before waging war on this event.
I'm not saying let's ignore it. I would say that perhaps a good message to send them would be "We don't hate you. We just want you to join us." Cheesy? Perhaps. But think about the implications of that. Asking the 1% to join the 99%. Any math whizzes out there? It is a positive message of solidarity, of unity, of love, of peace. We will have time to go on the offensive. In the meantime I feel we need to be diplomatic, welcoming, warm, peaceful, loving, friendly, and positive until we have the numbers to raise hell. Remember that ONE MISSTEP could jeopardize the whole movement.
And I have to add that, yes, we were given this gift through the wonders of karma. We were given the gift to EXERCISE RESTRAINT and prove we are not just a bunch of protesters. We are a movement that acts in the best interest of the PROGRESS of the movement. I say, let's make a presence there, but let's do it in the most politically sound way we can. We are all excited, all pumped up, all ready to make a difference. Discretion is the greater part of valor. I think we should utilize this to further ourselves and not to define ourselves.
With love, solidarity, respect, and passion,
Anthony
