I propose that we, Occupy Chicago, invite our friends and allies, and all of the 99%, to join us in the financial district to celebrate a year of awakening, and a show of active resistance to the status quo that has brought so many into a struggle for a better life, and better world. On the 17th, we are inviting organizations around the city, and affinity groups, to carry out small actions aimed at institutions that perpetuate austerity, and that undermine the well being and freedom of the people. That night, we will join these groups in a march, beginning at either Congress Plaza, or Jackson and LaSalle. On Sunday, we will have a very family friendly event at Jackson and LaSalle, that will involve scattered music, teach ins, and other diversions that will be reminiscent of the early days of the movement.
In spite of efforts to undermine us, downplay our successes, and silence our message, we are still here, fighting for a change that we all know will take time. The wave of realization that we have all fought for must be honored, and those who have joined us in the streets must be celebrated. As we move into the second year of our movement, we must make sure our presence is felt, and that the world is reminded that the people, united, will never be defeated.
