Occupy Chicago Desegregation Proposal

This proposal is more of an initiative than a call to action. The way in which the committees operates does not reflect the type of community that we want to see in the world around us nor does it reflect the Occupy Chicago we originally envisioned. Committees themselves, their tasks, and events are very exclusive to one another, information about their whereabouts does not flow seamlessly through Occupy Chicago, and a a result the turn out for the events is minimal with half of the attendees often being the committee members themselves. To put it plainly, Occupy Chicago is segregated, not by race or religion, but by committee. Before it seemed advantageous to work in a system based on division of labor to more efficiently complete specialized tasks, but all it has done is put an enormous strain on the committees due to a having too much work to be completed by too few members and only calling upon people and committees when their services are needed.

Corporations fashion themselves in the same manner, but for reasons other than efficiency and job mastery. This includes compartmentalization, to isolate workers, keep them focused on the task at hand and not question authority.

With the GA's approval, I would like to change the voting method to pass this proposal. Instead of going by 90% super majority, I propose that this is passed unanimously by all committees. They will be given one week to discuss among themselves if they want to approve this proposal. I propose this voting method because it wouldn't make sense to adopt it if not all the committees are on board with it.

In addition, I propose that if this proposal fails, then we vote to indefinitely suspend the “purpose driven GA” format, because that was meant to serve as a community builder and would be compliment the aspects of having a more unified Occupy Chicago present and participating in GA's.

In summary, first we decide whether or not we want to pass or fail the proposal by 100% of the committees (the committees may decide if they want to come to a complete consensus, 90% approval, simple majority or whatever method they want to use), or simply use the 90% super majority by default. Second, we dissolve all existing committees (all working groups like May Day, People's Summit, and NATO may continue). Working groups remain because they better represent how we should function, and identify ourselves, not as individuals with specific tasks, but individuals with specific talents that can apply them in coordination with others toward a specific goal. Finally, if the proposal fails, we will vote on suspending the “purpose driven GA” indefinitely, and this will be done by the 90% threshold.

*Note I didn't really proofread this, so if it doesn't flow very smoothly or if you find a plethora of grammar errors, sorry, but, remember that as the GA you have the power to amend it as you see fit ;)
