@ Ruth (Ella Mae)

Sorry. It really wasn't my intention to personally insult you. My comment was more about my general feeling about the forums here and how they are and are not used.

Proposals get posted, as they need to be in order to be presented, and people make comments, but I feel that often times there is no real discussion.

It would have been much more useful had I said Phil is the guy who made a previous post on his thread which made a lot of sense. Doesn't matter now anyways as this proposal has passed and we are now further away from where we started as a transparent open movement.

I also take issue with the fact that proposals are made and then voted on but if you are not attending that particular GA, you will never know the outcome of that vote because it is rare that any of that information gets posted here. I have definately gotten the impression that it has not been deemed important to ikeep the Occupy Chicago community at large in the know.

Ruth, I see that you make many helpful and thoughtful comments here on this forum and that you do try to foster a sense of community. Again, I apologize because I really did not intend to insult you personally.

Unfortunately this is true. A lot of people don't want an actual public discussion and this is partially why it's not happening.

Unfortunately this is also true. Some people want to be able to spend Occupy Chicago money without transparency. This is a disappointment to me.

Unfortunately this is very true. The good news is that most of what is debated and voted on at a GA is a ridiculous waste of time. There is some really good work going on in committees and working groups though.

Last and certainly not least, this is definitely how OC us being "run". Some of that falls on the individuals, as it's your own responsibility to be informed. But at the same time there is resistance from the main decision making body to actually listen to the "99%".

As I like to say, the more they are to listen, the less likely it is that their own personal crusades will be the focus. It's unfortunately somewhat natural that people want to keep their sphere of influence stronger, even if its to the detriment of the movement's participation as a whole.

It's that an personal comfort zone as well. There is a good, strong core of people involved doing good work, but as soon as that group starts to grow it gets more difficult to get things done. Working relationships that now exist help facilitate the work that's getting done. Expanding those connections though will create change. Some people don't like change.
