Making our new Headquarters work
Making our new Headquarters work
1. Drug and alcohol free zone. I know this should go without saying, but the temptation to serve alcohol or have parties will be great, and there cannot be any flexibility or leniency on these rules if we want to avoid legal liability.
2. Earn your keep. This is to keep individuals from abusing the space, and to make sure that those at HQ do not become complacent and that the outdoor occupations don't die in the winter. To this end, the following system is proposed: In order to spend time at our HQ, you must earn time by aiding the movement, with equal time inside for time aiding the movement. Actions that are considered aiding the movement are: spending time at LaSalle and Jackson, spending time at 66th and MLK camp, spending time at any official occupy camp, working on committee business, helping to clean the headquarters, helping to clean Grace place or any other indoor occupation location, participating in major rallies or occupy events. Public events, like General Assemblies, are open to all.
3. Connect the neighborhood occupies. To make Occupy Chicago the central hub of the many growing and powerful neighborhood occupy movements, we propose that spending time at the neighborhood occupies be considered an activity that earns time at HQ, and that therefore those most active in the neighborhoods can come to our HQ for the chance to talk, exchange ideas, and form strategy. We should also work to help make sure that city wide events are coordinated between neighborhoods. This will allow the Occupies of Chicago to work together, rather than trying to battle the 1% separately.
