We Do not Represent Chicago as a Whole Until we RECANT our letter to CPD

Seems to me like you're needlessly bringing up RACE issues in a protest primarily (and, hopefully, solely) about ECONOMIC POLICY.

America is still very sensitive about race, a great way to divide the 99% would be with crap like this.

I also doubt the police force would be very receptive to cooperation if we were to compare them to cockroaches.

We Do not Represent Chicago as a Whole Until we RECANT our letter to CPD

Thanks for bringing this up Orion! Perhaps as we move toward the weekend we should no just reform an open letter to the police, but also call both for the immediate retrial of all those tortured by the police department during the Burge years as well as an independent investigation into all those who have been shot by the police since January.

We Do not Represent Chicago as a Whole Until we RECANT our letter to CPD

First of all, this is a moot argument because the original letter is down, which was my primary objective in penning this.

Second, it expresses all of the reasons that we should not endorse every action that the police take.

Third, you cannot divide race from the corporatist oligarchy's oppressive control of this country.

Fourth, much of the general public is composed of minorities who are constantly under fire from a police force.

Of equal importance is the fact that the police are not on our side.  They are squeezing us out.  They are issuing citations.  They are violating our first amendment rights.

Wake up people.

It's important to remember that every act we make at this point should be mindful of strategy.  Not everything can be about ideology.  Declaring war on racism or abuse of power by police are things I think most of us could get behind.  But we are here for a broader purpose and we must focus on the task at hand.  There are political reasons why the nature of our relationship with the police may one day make or break this movement.  We must consider the facts.  For one, the police are all that are standing between a the 1% and their rapidly growing opposition.  The war on the middle class is a threat to the police as well.  When the day comes that orders come down from the top, the cops will have to make a decision.  They will have to look at the thousands of faces of working people like them on a peaceful mission to protect our livelihood, and they will have to decide who's side they are on.  They will have to decide if the batons and tear gas will come down on these people at the command of those taking home all the wealth.  This is the day we should be preparing for.  I'm with you on fighting a system of domination and abuse.  That's why we are here.  But we must be smart about it.  We must know our opponent and form our actions from strategy rather than emotion.
