Global Teach-In - Chicago Chapter!
I propose that Occupy Chicago endorses the Chicago Chapter of the Global Teach-In (www.globalteachin.com).

This live event is occurring around the world on Wednesday, April 25th. In Chicago it will take place from 11am to 2pm at 600 S Michigan ave, in room 101, the Ferguson lecture hall of Columbia College Chicago.
The Global Teach in focuses on 3 broad topics:
I. Democracy Networks: The Arab Spring, the Occupy Wall Street movement, the UK Uncut and the Spanish Indignants’ movement are each examples for thinking about how a global movement might emerge.
II. Green Jobs and Planning: We are facing a “triple crisis” defined by economic, environmental and energy supply problems. The solution to these crises requires a “Green New Deal” that expands investments, research, jobs and infrastructure related to alternative energy and mass transportation.
III. An Alternative Financial System: We need a new way to organize our banking capacities and financial system. The people have the immediate power to influence direction of financial investment, limiting the financial volatility that is the basis for a high frequency trading system expropriating the majority’s savings every nanosecond. Tax, budget and investment policies must change to promote income equality. We must move our money out of investments that don’t create sustainable growth. A bloated military economy and mega-budgets are too costly to sustain.
Overall, it's about creating the economy we wish we had and want to see. The teach in will be broadcast over the internet and radio, and also in local city chapters.
I was contacted 2 months ago by the main organizer who got my name after I organized Occupy the AEA (american economics association).
I talked about the global teach in at GA and in committees and no one else wanted to work on it, so i did it myself.
This was done as an open working group, i just happened to be the only one working in it.
Now all the work is done, and i want the GA to endorse the event.
I already have endorsements from: Critical Encounters, Occupy Columbia College Chicago, Cultural Studies Students Society, Chicago Political Economy Group, American Monetary Institute, Illinois Citizens for Public Banking, Make Wall Street Pay Illinois.
Occupy Portland is supporting the Portland global teach in chapter.

How does high-frequency trading work?
