GA minutes February 24th

GA Minutes 2/24/2012:

Anncouncements:
-- safe spaces meeting tmrw at 6pm
-- gender equity meeting 3pm sunday
-- CACHE March 1st school walk-out; 1pm Millennium park march to Chase

-- people need to stop sleeping in the halls at Cermak. we will lose our lease.
-- education: conference on march 3/4; please submit panel questions!

Votes:

1) Livestream: Law enforcement watches livestream (building stats data
etc). Must take steps to protect privacy (launched in tandem with
OEB/OSS 'safe spaces' proposal): to OPT-IN rather than OPT-OUT of
being in the livstream.
-- a) stream/no stream zones in the space
-- b) stack keeps written list of preference (full consent,
audio-only, cut-off both, voice distortion, read by another)
-- c) mod explains at beginning before stream begins and maintain info-signs
Friendly amendment: temp-check to decide if audio should be kept on/turned off

2) NATO/G8 Week of actions call (specific plans TBD via DAC and G8/NATO WG)
-- a) come to Chicago for week of actions from People's summit (12th)
until the end of the g8/nato summit

-- c) international solidarity actions
-- d) allows autonomous action

3) Labour: Support ATF Local 1708 City College of Chicago Clerical
workers' STRIKE(to occur ten days from past Tuesday)
-- addresses issues of privatization of schools, try to get students
on board rather than divide and conquer

4) Safe Space proposal: All OC spaces are sanctuaries for criminalized
people; presented by OEB and OSS (already passed at their GAs)
-- including but not limited to prisoners, homeless, immigrants
(documented and undocumented), LGBTQ
-- excludes agents of the state

Safer Spaces Amendment >:(

That amendment for the 'safer spaces' to change the language from 'prisoners' to 'victims of the prison industrial complex' should really have been accepted as friendly. I'm very unhappy that it wasn't.
